How the calculations work
The calculator uses arithmetic means and weighted means. The final-exam mode solves the weighted-grade equation for the unknown exam grade.
Simple average
average = sum of grades / number of gradesEvery entered grade contributes equally.
Weighted average
average = sum(grade × weight) / sum of weightsWeights may be percentages or any other positive proportional values.
Required final exam grade
required = (target - current × (1 - w)) / wHere w is the final exam weight written as a decimal.

Important limitations
- The calculator does not convert percentages to letters, GPA points or country-specific grades.
- A 0-20 scale is calculated directly; it is not a conversion to a national grading rule.
- Dropped grades, bonus points, curves and special institutional rules are not applied automatically.
- A displayed result may differ from the official grade because of hidden precision or a different rounding policy.

Frequently asked questions
Do weights have to total 100%?
No. The weighted mode divides by the total entered weight. A notice appears when the total is not 100%.
Can I enter grades above 100%?
This version uses a strict 0-100 scale. Add bonus points to the official course calculation before entering a percentage.
Why is a required exam grade above 100%?
The desired target is higher than the maximum course grade possible with the remaining exam weight.
Does this calculate GPA?
No. GPA and letter conversions vary by institution, so this calculator keeps percentages separate.
